How to operate and care for your new vinyl window

CONGRATULATIONS – This window is the result of all the latest technology in window design.  It has been custom manufactured to be thermally efficient and virtually maintenance free.

Unlike other windows, 100% Vinyl Windows are easy to care for and the finishes do not deteriorate over time.  Occasional cleaning of the surface will retain the beauty and lubricity of the Vinyl for the life of your window.

  • Maintenance
  • Removing the Sash
  • Removing the Screen

The natural lubricating ability of Vinyl prevents dirt, grease or stains from penetrating or discoloring the Vinyl surface.  But, as with any window, abrasives can dull the finish.  Use a cream wax cleaner or polish for every day cleaning.  For stubborn spots, a non-abrasive cleaner is best.  Sight scratches can be polished out with a small amount of scouring power.  Finish off with cream wax or polish.

Each window comes with two tilt latches on each operating sash.

Washing the Window

  • Unlock window.
  • Raise bottom sash approximately 4" above sill.
  • Push thumb buttons on top of sash toward the center of the sash. This will retract tilt latches into sash frame, allowing sash to tilt inward.
  • Tilt sash into home. Once sash has been tilted to 90o, the pivot bars located at the base of the sash, will disengage from brake show, and sash can be removed.
  • To remove sash, hold sash firmly with both hands. Gently tap on sash near base of sash on one side.
  • Once sash is out of brake shoe, gently raise opposite side.
  • To reinstall sash, reverse steps 6 & 5. Sash must be at a 90o angle, perpendicular to the frame or wall to engage or disengage brake shoe.
  • To prevent sash from coming out of brake shoe, do not tilt sash to 90o.

Each sash can be completely removed for glass replacement, balance service, or screen removal.  Be careful when your remove the sash because they are heavy.

In the tilt position, raise one side of the sash, as shown until the sash pin is free of the balance lock.  It will take effort because you will be overriding the balance lock.  The opposite side pin can now be freed from it balance lock.

To restore the sash, reverse the procedure above.  Insert the lower side pin, engage the upper side pin and straighten the ash back into its level, operating position.
If a balance lock needs to be moved, or repositioned when the sash is removed, a flat-head screwdriver can be used to operate the lock and move the balance up or down to position it for pin insertion.

CAUTION:  The balances are pre-tensioned to operate with the weight of the sash.  With the ash removed, the balances will snap up if the balance lock is disengaged.  Make sure the lock is engaged before removing the sash.  If it does snap up, place the head of the flat-head screwdriver in the tilt pin hole, put the lock down to extend the balance and twist the screwdriver 1/4 to ½ turn until you feel the lock "clicks".

Each screen is filled with a rail on one side which, when pushed to the opposite side will compress the screen springs into the deep side channel and allow the screen to be removed as shown.

To re-install the screen, reverse the procedure above.  Re-insert the spring side of the screen into the deep side channel and compress with the rail or tab side of the screen will move easily in line with the shallow side channel.  Releasing the rail or tabs slowly will allow the screen to slip into the shallow side channel and operate correctly.  Check the operation of the screen and re-adjust as necessary.
